The aesthetic look that natural stone lends to an outside entertainment area is unparalleled by any other paving material and the functional aspects cannot be met nor matched either. The beautiful natural stone pavers can even be used inside the home in bathrooms foyers and other rooms where natural stone flooring looks good. The ability to use it in and out of the home makes it a very versatile choice for flooring. When choosing to use these natural stone pavers the designer or homeowner will have a lot of choices to make because they are available in so many styles and colours. A lot of people are actually using Travertine tiles over their old concrete paved areas to modernize their pre-existing areas.
Using them in your home will with care mean that they last longer than your home probably will! Natural stone is of course available in many different forms such as travertine granite limestone slate sandstone and quartzite and they all differ in the way in which they will age with time and use. It is commonly thought that natural stone tiles improve with age and use because they develop unique characters and qualities. This is of course true even within the different types of stone available; since stone is a natural product no two tiles will be identically alike which will go a long way to making your tiled floor or wall very special indeed.
People might have used stone because they had no other choice in the past and there were probably not many other hard materials for them to use but why do so many people still prefer to use them now? One of the main reasons that people still prefer natural stone tiles to any other flooring is their beauty. Many homeowners love the colour variation and natural effect of the tiles and the fact that they come from nature is yet another draw card. Natural stone tiles are not plain and boring; each tile is different from one another. The feel touch and even the smell of them are different from manufactured tiles. Stone products are very durable.
One reason for this is because stone is a very strong material that is more difficult to cut than a wood board or even a ceramic tile which would be scored and snapped. In addition to this you may need to prepare the surface of the sub-floor upon which your tiles will be laid if it is uneven or cracked. This can be done in most cases with a good quality self-leveling compound available from all respectable tile and flooring specialists. When preparing natural stone tiles for laying be sure to spend time inspecting them both for chips and surface scratches. Typically natural stone tiles will arrive with a light wax coating to protect them from potential damage in transit.
