Premium modern finishes are acrylic and are guaranteed to last in excess of 50 years. Metal roofing offers a lightweight alternative to the heavier concrete and clay tiles they imitate. Weighing less than a third of the weight of a concrete covering they require a less substantial structure to support the roof. This brings the build cost down and offers more flexibility with structure choice. The installation time of metal roofing is much quicker than that of clay or concrete. This also reduces labour costs and allows the second fix trades to commence earlier. Each roofing manufacturer will provide an installation guide for their product. Here are a few extra installation techniques not normally covered.
For copper you have a few choices unless you have sealed the surface. You may allow the metal tiles to age and simply clean them on a regular basis using water and soap. You may also use a copper cleaner if you want your metal accent tiles for backsplash to remain shiny. However patina copper tiles have a clear coat protection so it will not do any good if you use a copper cleaner on them. Instead just stick to water and soap to keep them clean. You have to apply special care on titanium tiles even if they are only titanium-colored. Never use water and soap on them. Instead prepare a solution with equal parts of water and vinegar and then apply it on the tiles using a clean dry cloth to keep them shiny and clean.
Asphalt which is still used on 90% of the homes in the country has an expected life of 15 to 30 years. Metal on the other hand is often guaranteed by warranty to last 50 years or longer! One thing to be careful about is the installation. Your professional contractor should be a specialist in this type of work. They must follow the manufacturers instructions exactly in order for you to benefit from the warranty. There are often stringent criteria for underlayment flashing preparation of the surface and the like that they must abide by to fulfill the requirements. Metal tile roofing is better at resisting the harshness and extremes of the elements than the more often applied asphalt.
